Key elements of infectious disease syndromic surveillance systems: A scoping review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Syndromic surveillance is an alternative type of public health surveillance which utilises pre-diagnostic data sources to detect outbreaks earlier than conventional (laboratory) surveillance and monitor the progression of illnesses in populations. These systems are often noted for their ability to detect a wider range of cases in underreported illnesses, utilise existing data sources, and alert public health authorities of emerging crises. In addition, they are highly versatile and can be applied to a wide range of illnesses (communicable and non-communicable) and environmental conditions. As a result, their implementation in public health practice is expanding rapidly. This scoping review aimed to identify all existing literature detailing the necessary components in the defining, creating, implementing, and evaluating stages of human infectious disease syndromic surveillance systems.

Syndromic Surveillance for Influenzalike Illness in Ambulatory Care Setting
Conventional disease surveillance mechanisms that rely on passive reporting may be too slow and insensitive to rapidly detect a large-scale infectious disease outbreak; the reporting time from a patient's initial symptoms to specific disease diagnosis takes days to weeks. To meet this need, new surveillance methods are being developed. Referred to as nontraditional or syndromic surveillance, th...

Syndromic surveillance has expanded since 2001 in both scope and geographic reach and has benefited from research studies adapted from numerous disciplines. The practice of syndromic surveillance continues to evolve rapidly. The International Society for Disease Surveillance solicited input from its global surveillance network on key research questions, with the goal of improving syndromic surv...

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be one of the largest mass gathering events in British history. In order to minimise potential infectious disease threats related to the event, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has set up a suite of robust and multisource surveillance systems. These include enhancements of already established systems (notification of infectious diseases, local...

BACKGROUND All countries need effective disease surveillance systems for early detection of outbreaks. The revised International Health Regulations [IHR], which entered into force for all 194 World Health Organization member states in 2007, have expanded traditional infectious disease notification to include surveillance for public health events of potential international importance, even if th...
